Sabbath Quiet: Who Will Keep You?

I lift my eyes to the hills–from where will my help come?

He will keep you from harm

My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

God, help me, dull of heart, to trust in thee.

Thou art the Father of me–not any mood can part me from the One, the verily Good.

When fog and failure o’er my being brood,

When life looks but a glimmering marshy clod,

No fire out flashing from the living God–

Then, then, to rest in faith were worthy victory!

~George MacDonald

He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.

He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and for evermore.

Psalm 121

Precious Lord,
Thank You for my lovely hill hiding the sun until later morning, when it comes up over my hill each day without fail. Your mercies are new everyday without fail.

Thank you for my lovely hill on evenings…when my sorrows seem more than I can bare that day, and heavy hearted, I sit looking at my hill. The light of the sun going down behind me little by little causes my hill to be swallowed up in dusk. Only You know why this is soothing to me….why Your creation nurtures me, Your redeemed creature. As my hill is dimmed….so are my sorrows and I am comforted. My hill disappears but You are still here.

Thank you for my lovely hill at night when I step out on my patio and see my hill bathed in light from the moon. I am blessed beyond the capacity of words to know You and Your beauty…I am comforted…..Grateful to having been given the eyes to see.

I may get up in the early morning and breathe in Your fresh air, mesmerized by the stars that would be invisible were it not for my hill blocking out the lesser lights. You know each star by name and shine them on me. In all my insignificance, I am not insignificant to you. You know me, Your beloved child by name.

The crescent moon and the bright morning star………all a canopy over my backyard, swallow me up in Your Light……swallow me up in Your Life…..You are my Morning Star.

I am blessed and yet this is just the beginning. As you have redeemed me and nurtured me and called me your own and as I have lifted my eyes to the hills and you reaffirm my soul……….You beckon my soul to be still. I know You are God and that my help comes from You. …..from No One less than the Creator of heaven and earth.

I acknowledge you acknowledging me. I commit myself to You, my Redeemer because You commit Yourself to me, Your redeemed. I am Yours. You are my Keeper. You will not allow my foot to be moved. You keep me and will not slumber or sleep. You are with me and for me 24/7…around the clock…day in…day out…forever! You will keep me from all evil. You preserve my soul. You keep my going out and my coming in now and forever more. Amen

Mary, this touched me deeply. I saw that same crescent moon and morning star yesterday and marveled…Thank you for sharing this, my friend.
